People were shocked at the pub in Newport on Thursday when Calum Scott, famous since he went on Britain’s Got Talent 10 years ago, got on stage for a song

Pubgoers at a music venue in Newport were shocked when Britain’s Got Talent star Calum Scott jumped on stage and surprised the crowd with a song. Calum had been at Le Pub in Newport city centre supporting a friend who had been performing when he decided to treat revellers to a song.

Welsh pop rock duo Lilygreen & Maguire performed for the crowd of around 130 people when they pulled Calum up on stage to join them. The 37-year-old, who performed on Britain’s Got Talent 10 years ago, got on stage and sang You Are The Reason, which the audience joined him in belting out while he played the guitar.

Sam Dabb, owner of Le Pub, said she had no idea Calum was going to perform and was over the moon he did. She said: “Everyone was so excited to see him on stage.” From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What’s On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here

Le Pub was hosting a charity event on Thursday, December 18, when the impromptu performance happened. The gig raised over £12,000 for Mind.

Calum rose to fame in 2015 after earning the golden buzzer from Simon Cowell with a cover of Dancing On My Own by Robyn – a cover he’s still well-known for now.

In October he released his third album, Avenoir, which entered the charts at number 31.
