YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul left the ring on Saturday with a double broken jaw after six bruising rounds against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. But the American may have faced a very different opponent altogether after a top darts star boldly claimed he would floor Paul with one punch.

Welsh ace Gerwyn Price is no stranger to on-stage bust-ups and said he would be willing to lace up the gloves after a war of words erupted between the pair. When asked about the prospect of entering the ring with the 28-year-old former Disney Channel actor, Price offered a confident response.

He told talkSPORT: “That’s easy, I look forward to that. He’s a YouTuber, he’s not a fighter, is he? I think it would just be one punch, and it would be all over. Out cold.

“It would be a waste of money for people to tune in. He’ll never beat me in Wales. Nobody beats me in Wales. He’d probably beat Canelo but he’s not beating me, no.”

Paul, who is believed to have raked in around £70m from his money-spinning bout with Joshua, was quick to respond via private message, urging ‘The Iceman’ to put a figure on a potential clash in the ring.

“He’s seen it and messaged me,” the 40-year-old shared with talkSPORT. “He wrote back to me and said, ‘Come to Greece, man. Just name a price.’ I don’t know why he’s in Greece.”

Quizzed on whether he had responded to Paul’s invitation, Price joked: “I was a bit scared. No, I need to get some training in.”

Price – a former professional rugby player before switching to the world of darts – has history in the sport. The Cardiff-born star was lined up to box in a charity event in 2022 but later pulled out on medical advice.

His unlikely rival Paul somewhat defied the odds in Miami to last nearly six of the eight rounds with former Olympic gold medallist Joshua, who boasts 29 professional wins including victories over Wladimir Klitschko and Dillian Whyte.

However, the fight was eventually stopped after Paul failed to beat the count following repeated knockdowns. The influencer later required two titanium plates to be fitted and had several teeth removed.

As Paul recovered from surgery, former world champion Price suffered his own chastening knockout at the hands of outsider Wesley Plaisier. The world number nine recorded a higher average but suffered a whitewash 3-0 defeat in the PDC World Darts Championship second round tie.

After the match, Price took to Instagram to sportingly praise his opponent and wish him luck for the rest of the tournament. He wrote: “Absolutely gutted there had so much support which was amazing.

“Wesley was great at the right moments but I was way off and it showed, good luck to him and everyone else left in the tournament see you in 2026. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
