A Championship club have confirmed the signing of one of a winger spoken about among the exciting young talents at Castleford Tigers.

Andy Djeukessi found game time hard to come by at the OneBore Stadium with the young winger making just one senior appearance for the club.

That came in 2025 with Djeukessi starting on the wing in the 40-0 loss to St Helens back in August, however, the youngsters other senior experience come from his time on loan with Workington in League One.

Across the 2025 season, Djeukessi played five times for Workington, scoring an impressive six tries but that’s not been enough to keep him around at Castleford Tigers.

The Tigers have signed the likes of Darnell McIntosh and NRL duo Semi Valemei and Mikaele Ravalawa to add to their outside back ranks that already include Louis Senior and Jason Qareqare, with that depth surely contributing to Djeukessi’s exit from Castleford.

It’s been confirmed that the young winger has signed with Newcastle Thunder ahead of the 2026 season in the expanded Championship competition.

A statement from the North-East club read: “Newcastle Thunder are pleased to announce Andy Djeukessi has signed for the club ahead of the upcoming Betfred Championship season.

“He arrives with experience at both Championship and Super League level, having previously played for Workington Town on loan from his parent club, Castleford Tigers.”

Newcastle have made a handful of impressive signings this year with Sam Cook, the hooker from York Knights, among them as they look to build ahead of their first season in this expanded Championship.

Djeukessi is a player with plenty of promise, as Chris Chester explained ahead of his Super League debut in August, with the then interim coach stating: “Physically he’s still only very slight is Andy, but he’s a goer, he’s a trier, he’s got some speed, and if he gets out in the open there’s not many people who are going to catch him, so I think that’s the exciting part, and that’s what the Cas fans will be excited for.”
