A North East pub has been forced to close its doors on Christmas Day due to an ongoing police incident.

A police van was seen parked outside The Queens Head in the village of Willington, near Crook, on the morning of Christmas Day.

The County Durham pub shared a message to its Facebook page at 7.20am on December 25, telling customers: “Sorry, The Queens Head Willington will be closed all day today.”

The reason behind the closure and police presence is yet to be confirmed.

Durham Constabulary and the North East Ambulance Service have been contacted for comments.
