The IBF’s handed them extra time — until January 6 — but that’s not mercy. It’s hesitation. Nobody’s rushing to lock in this fight because both camps can smell the risk. On paper, it’s an eliminator. In reality, it’s a career audit for two men trying to prove how far they can go.

Sanchez has been chasing his ghost since Kabayel folded him. Seventh round, legs gone, eyes blank. The stoppage stripped more than his rank — it stripped faith. That calm, surgical style he once carried now flickers under pressure. He came back in February, blew out Echeverria in three, but so what? Sparring partner level. The kind of win you post on socials, not the kind that rebuilds your name.

Torrez Can’t Hide Forever

Torrez keeps ticking along. Salek, Vianello — solid enough names but not the type that drag resistance out of you. He’s got the Olympic badge, yeah, but that medal sheen fades the first time someone counters down the middle. His rhythm’s amateur-clean, his jab neat, but you can see it — he still pauses too long between phrases. Against a man like Sanchez, those pauses get punished. Sanchez still carries timing, even if the confidence is stitched together with tape.

But Torrez isn’t without danger. He’s more composed now, less proud of his handspeed, more committed to body work and exits. The problem? He hasn’t had to fight tired yet. Sanchez will force that. Slow fights that drag and test patience. Torrez’s feet might betray him late.

Everyone Else Ran First

Notice who passed: Itauma, Ajagba, Hrgovic — all supposedly climbing, all said no thanks. That says something. Sanchez still carries enough risk to make people nervous. The same man who got stopped by Kabayel remains too awkward for half the division. That’s the definition of limbo.

By January 6, someone’s got to blink. If it goes to purse bid, the whispers start again. “Does Sanchez still have it?” “Is Torrez really ready?” No good answers either way.

If Sanchez loses, he’s finished as a serious name. If Torrez gets exposed, the Olympic glow’s gone for good. Both men know it — that’s why they’re stalling.
