Shoppers are advised to check before heading out to big brand sites

If you are planning do some Boxing Day shopping this year, be aware that many retailers will be closed on December 26. Some bosses have repeated the decision to give staff another day off – with many having done so since the pandemic.
Some major retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons will open, and in some cases with reduced hours. And while Boxing Day is traditionally seen as the start of post-Christmas sales, many retail bosses have noted their wish to give staff more time off with loved ones over the period.

Aldi
Aldi stores across Hull will be shut on Boxing Day before reopening on Saturday, December 27.
Lidl
Lidl’s stores at Hedon Road, Cottingham Road and Connaught Road will be closed at 6pm on Christmas Eve, and will open again at 8am on December 27.
M&S
The M&S Simply Food stores at Kingswood, Anlaby Retail Park and Butcher Row in Beverley will be closed on Boxing Day and will reopen on Saturday, December 27 at 8am.
The Range
Bosses at The Range announced Christmas opening hours in October, saying: “It’s time for some festive R&R! Our stores will be closed on Christmas Day & Boxing Day so our incredible teams can enjoy the celebrations with loved ones.”
Home Bargains
The discounter thanked all of its staff for their hard work this year as it announced earlier this month it would be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. After stores close early on Christmas Eve, at 5pm, Home Bargains sites across Hull won’t reopen again until December 27 at 8am. The chain’s city locations include Lister Street, Kingston Shopping Centre and Boothferry Road, among others.
B&Q
DIY fanatics will have to get their supplies before 4pm on Christmas Eve, before they can access stores again on December 27. The chain’s St Andrews Retail Park and Ferry Lane stores will follow others in closing for Boxing Day.
Wickes
Similarly, those home improvements will have to wait if Wickes is your preferred store. Its Leads Road site will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Poundland
Budget retailer Poundland’s stores will be shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, before reopening on December 27.
Pets At Home
If your furry friends need anything over the festive period, you’ll need to stock up on Christmas Eve before stores close for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Iceland
The supermarket’s nine Hull stores – including Prospect Shopping Centre and Holderness Road – will be closed on Boxing Day.
