Shoppers who bought turkeys from a major British supermarket this year were out of pocket when they turned out to small ‘rancid’. Several Tesco shoppers shelled out for their Christmas bird – only to have to bin them due to a their odour.
Beth Mahoney got up early to prep Christmas dinner before a dog walk, only to wince at the ‘awful smell’ from a turkey she purchased from Tesco.
According to YorkshireLive, Beth said: “We bought our turkey two days ago, and it was in date until the 27th. When we opened it, there was a really strong odour and the meat smelled awful.
“On the packaging it said that we had to let it sit and dissipate but the smell wouldn’t stop. We put it in the oven in a ditch effort to see if it was just us being sensitive and and the smell made me feel physically ill.
“It was one of the worst things I had ever smelt – it made me want to be sick.”
Others flocked to ‘X’ to share similar complaints. ‘X’ user @GR4BRO posted to his page a photo of a greening piece of turkey meat. The post read: “Tesco Class A turkey’… hmmm. Rancid!”
Meanwhile, @Westy_26 wrote: “Thanks Tesco. Christmas ruined, opened our turkey to cook it and it’s rancid, only bought it Tuesday and has tomorrow’s date. Kids are crying, the wife is crying. Nice one.”
@pearsecassidy wrote: “Had to dump out our Tesco turkey today, the smell of it would’ve knocked you out – taking no chances , lucky we had a backup – never again.” Another disgruntled shopper added: “Our Turkey is well manky. Can’t believe it. Christmas ruined right now.”
Tesco has been contacted for a comment regarding the string of Turkey complaints.
