Manchester United could complete the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko before the transfer window closes.

United have made two new signings so far this summer, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo being added to their squad. United have until September 1 to complete their transfer business for the summer, with Sesko being lined up as the club’s next potential signing.

The Manchester Evening News has reported that Sesko is a target for United, with the club advancing on a deal to bring the striker to Old Trafford. However, the Reds will have to prepare for a battle for the Leipzig star’s signature with Newcastle also showing an interest in a deal this summer.

It remains to be seen where Sesko will end up this summer, having previously been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool. If the striker was to join United, though, his dream shirt number would not be available.

As is often the case when a new signing is confirmed, they are soon given a squad number that they will wear during their time at the club. For United, if they were to sign Sesko, they would ideally want to confirm a squad number fairly soon after his arrival.

However, the number that Sesko may want is not available at United this summer. The striker currently wears No.30 for Leipzig.

However, that number is currently unavailable at United, having been taken by summer signing Diego Leon earlier this summer. Sesko also wore the No.30 during his time at Red Bull Salzburg before he joined Leipzig.

The Slovenia international has previously worn numbers 21 and 29 at the start of his career, but has worn No.30 since the 2020/21 season. No.21 is currently held by Antony at United, although the Brazilian does look set to leave the club this summer, while 29 is vacant.
