Man Utd failed to beat a Wolves side destined for relegation as they drew 1-1 at Old Trafford in a low-quality game.United produced a dismal performance against Wolves

Manchester United ended 2025 with a whimper as they failed to beat a Wolves side who have now failed to win any of their first 19 Premier League games of the season. United started the game poorly but took the lead with a scrappy goal. Ayden Heaven won possession to start the move but the ball fell kindly for Joshua Zirkzee, whose effort was deflected in off Ladislav Krejci.

Wolves had been the better side before the break and got the equaliser they deserved. This time, Zirkzee inadvertently flicked on a corner to Krejci, whose header beat Senne Lammens. Patrick Dorgu scored late on but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:

Senne Lammens: Couple of excellent saves in either half, the second of which from Krejci was a strong hand and he reacted well to claw the ball from danger. 7

Lisandro Martinez: Passing radar not as good as it usually is and didn’t carry the same authority as he did on Boxing Day. 6

Ayden Heaven: His challenge on Hwang Hee-chan led to the first goal and he was solid in the middle of the defence. Boos when replaced by Yoro showed fans are falling for him. 7

Luke Shaw: Lots of ground to cover in the second half and tested at times, but showed his fitness is improving. Combination with Patrick Dorgu seems to be lacking something. 6

Diogo Dalot: Didn’t contribute much in an attacking sense and Wolves found joy down his wing. One good block late on. 5

Manuel Ugarte: Playing because there’s nobody else. Solid enough defensively but a weak point in possession and targeted when he gets on the ball. 5

Casemiro: Not at his best and partnership with Ugarte is lacking the ability to control games. Needs to be reunited with a Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes as soon as possible. 6

Patrick Dorgu: Would have been mystified at being moved back to the left. Pushed higher in the second half but struggled to match his Boxing Day heroics. Scored late on but ruled out. 6

Joshua Zirkzee: Goal owed a lot to good fortune. It came after more fancy flicks and there were plenty of those, but not enough of the dirty work that Amorim had demanded. 5

Matheus Cunha: Failed to match the impact he has had in recent games on a night when so much should have been going through him. 5

Benjamin Sesko: Needs a goal but another bright display. Fashioned a chance out of nothing and then hit the post with a header. Worked hard. 7

Substitutes

Jack Fletcher: Settled much quicker than on Boxing Day and saw plenty of the ball. Happy to show for it and tried to get United playing. Emerged with credit. 7

Leny Yoro: Boos greeted the change when he came on and it felt a bit pointless. 6

Bendito Mantato: Debut on difficult circumstances on the right and showed confidence to carry the ball forward at times. 6

Subs not used: Bayindir, Fredricson, Malacia, T. Fletcher, Lacey, Chido
