Manchester City are reportedly set to end Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s Celtic nightmare by cancelling his season-long loan.
The towering centre-back, 20, joined the Hoops in August but has barely had a look-in for the crisis-hit Scottish champions.
Simpson-Pusey has managed just one outing as a right-back against Kilmarnock in November – a debut that left interim boss Martin O’Neill unimpressed.
The out-of-favour youngster was also omitted from Celtic’s 24-man Europa League squad and has only been on the bench four times.
And the Daily Mail reports that City boss Pep Guardiola is set to recall the defender – who was crowned EPL 2 Player of the Year last season – and farm him out on loan elsewhere.
JSP won’t be the only one who heads for the exit door as the transfer window reopens.
Fellow summer signing Hayato Inamura is poised to return to Japan on loan, with J1 League side FC Tokyo locked in advanced talks.
Compatriot Shin Yamada could also return to his homeland in January after failing to make an impact following his £1.5million switch from Kawasaki Frontale.
South Korean winger Hyunjun Yang has emerged as a key player for under-fire boss Wilfried Nancy but has admirers down south, with Birmingham City ready to reignite their interest after seeing a deadline day swoop collapse.
Fringe man Paulo Bernardo may also be considering his options after struggling for regular minutes this season.
Daizen Maeda is entering the final 18 months of his Parkhead deal but – despite seeing a bumper summer transfer denied in the dying hours – has signalled his willingness to see out the campaign in Glasgow.
