Championship

Halifax Panthers have released their squad numbers for the new Championship season, with Kyle Eastmond’s squad packed full of ex-Super League players.

The Panthers finished fifth in the second tier last season and they’ll have high hopes of bettering that this campaign, having seen three of the four clubs that finished above them promoted to Super League. Oldham and London Broncos will be the big favourites for Championship glory but the Panthers have every right to be up there with the squad they’ve built.

Former NRL and Salford Red Devils man David Nofoaluma has signed on for the new season and he’ll take the one shirt, while Tanguy Zenon and Alfie Johnson claim three and four after making moves from Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves respectively.

Jesse Soric, who joined the club from Gold Coast Titans a couple of days ago, looks set to lead the attacking line from stand-off. The Serbia international is yet to make a senior appearance at club level, but the club are backing him to be a difference maker.

Dan Okoro takes 10 after his move from Warrington, while former Hull FC and Hull KR man Ben Crooks appears to have made the position switch from centre to back-row with the 32-year-old taking on the 11 jersey.

Wakefield Trinity loanee Myles Lawford takes 17, while former Bradford Bulls man Bayley Liu claims 18 and Darius Carter, who has joined from Huddersfield Giants, has been given 22.

Halifax play their first pre-season friendly this weekend when they take on Rochdale Hornets at The Shay before opening up their Championship campaign with a trip to Doncaster on January 18.
