On the morning of Wednesday, July 30, many geese were seen taking over the area of Whitbourne Avenue in east Swindon near Walcott.

The geese, draped in black, grey and white feathers are Canada Geese, native to North America but very common to see in the UK.

One resident was on their way to work and was “concerned” when she saw that the birds had “invaded” the area.

They said: “I was scared for my life to be honest, they were intimidating and there were so many of them!

“I am worried about the traffic hazard they could cause as they kept crossing the roads around and just stood their ground.

“I tried to go near them but then they looked like they were going to attack me –  they were terrifying.”

Drivers in the area should be aware of the big flock, ensuring they do not have an accident.

For bird lovers, they can rest assured that these geese are perfectly safe as they are of “least concern” on the endangerment scale.

They can live anywhere from 10 to 25 years and can be seen as a nuisance in areas where large numbers gather in parks and green spaces
