Rumours have been circulating regarding the future of Gervonta Davis.

The reigning WBA lightweight champion was last in action in March when he defended his belt against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in New York.

It was expected to be a straightforward title defence for Davis, but it turned out to be anything but, as he was pushed all the way by his rival and even took a knee in the ninth round, though no official knockdown was scored.

That proved to be crucial, as the fight well the full 12-round distance and was scored a majority decision draw after scores of 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, meaning a 10-8 round for Roach would have been enough to swing the cards in his favour.

A rematch between the pair was expected to take place in Las Vegas in August, but with just weeks to go until the planned date there has still been no announcement, and ‘Tank’ has instead found himself dealing with an arrest for misdemeanour domestic violence charges.

It led to claims over the past few days that Davis has retired from boxing and has no plans to return, but one of his coaches Kenny Ellis has now seemingly dismissed those rumours with a post on social media.

“Per usual FAKE news.”

‘Tank’ had previously spoken about planning to retire at the end of 2025 due to falling out of love with the sport, but boxing fans will be hoping that any plans to hang up the gloves are still a long way away and that he will indeed return in the near future.
