Gary Lineker has shared his experience with Liam Rosenior as he continues to be linked heavily with a move to Chelsea.

By all appearances, BlueCo are looking at Rosenior as the best option to take over from another young manager in Enzo Maresca.

It’s not just Chelsea who are fond of him. Rosenior is highly regarded by Brighton and has been fully accepted at the Ligue 1 side he is currently in charge of.

As it stands, he is the leading candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge, and he has recently been given another stamp of approval by a Premier League great.

Given the jobs Gary Lineker has frequented in the years since his retirement, he has met and talked at length with some of the best and most promising managers around.

Rosenior was a guest on Match of the Day a few years back, and he made a good impression on the former host of the show.

As Lineker shared on The Rest Is Football: “A lot of talk that Liam Rosenior will be brought in. I think he’s heavy favourite with the bookmakers. I don’t know if there’s any truth to that.

“He coaches at their sister club, doesn’t he? Strasbourg, who are currently about seventh in Liga. He was at Hull before that. Was Wayne Rooney’s assistant at Derby for a little while.

“I actually worked with him once, he was in the studio a few years ago. Really nice, really very impressive tactically.”

Rosenior’s tactical prowess is widely cited as a big reason for the Blues’ interest. He has got a fine tune out of his young Strasbourg side, and the hope is that he can do the same at Chelsea.

Alan Shearer’s post-Maresca Chelsea verdict

Alan Shearer also chimed in on the situation, and his stance hasn’t changed.

Shearer supported Maresca during his row with Chelsea’s owners, and continues to do so after his dismissal.

He says: “Football is a mad game. You get Chelsea winning the Club World Cup, winning the Conference League, and finishing in the Champions League.

“That’s one way of looking at thinking, well, hang on, what more do you want? Because I don’t think they’re a great team despite the money that they’ve spent.”

No one seems too convinced by Chelsea’s decision. Pep Guardiola came out in support of Maresca after hearing the news, and fans are far from impressed by the decision coming from above.

That all fades in importance with each passing day, with the new manager all there is to be concerned about now. If it is Rosenior, Lineker seems to approve.
