Rasmus Hojlund was on target in Chicago but he may be out of the Man United team soon if they sign a striker.Hojlund appeared to score twice in Chicago
Ruben Amorim admits he does not know if Rasmus Hojlund is certain to stay at Manchester United amid their interest in striker Benjamin Sesko.
Hojlund scored United’s opening goal in their 4-1 thrashing of Bournemouth in Chicago and tried to claim a second after Amad’s shot appeared to deflect in off the Dane.
The 22-year-old’s contribution came hours after it emerged United were advancing with a move for RB Leipzig goalscorer Sesko, having considered moves for Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Ollie Watkins earlier this summer.
United bought Hojlund from Atalanta in a £72million deal in July 2023 but he managed only four Premier League goals last term.
“The important thing is that people focus on the goals and we suffer a lot because of the lack of goals,” Amorim said. “But I think not just the goals, but the way he (Hojlund) connects the play.
“Every time we have to kick the ball, we are kicking the ball when we are more pressed. The ability for him to hold the defender and to connect in the support is helping us a lot to play better. And we are playing better because he is playing better.
“I am really happy with Rasmus. I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that the strikers that are here are working really well, are improving, are helping the team and that is the most important thing.
“The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving. Again, I don’t know what is going to happen until the market is closed.”
United have won both of their Premier League Summer Series games in the States and their tour ends against Everton in Atlanta on Sunday.
Bournemouth are unbeaten against United in their past four Premier League matches but were soundly beaten at Soldier Field, where Patrick Dorgu and substitute Ethan Williams netted their first senior goals for United.
“I think it was a good game,” Amorim added. “I think we played with intensity. We were aggressive and that is something that we need to improve on in the last season.
“I think we had better possessions compared to the last game, so they are listening. Of course, scoring first in the beginning of the game can change the confidence of the team. We changed some positions and you feel that they know what to do in different positions. It was a good test.
“We controlled quite well the runs of Evanilson, (Antoine) Semenyo. One against one. Luke Shaw was also really strong. It was a good day.
“It was just a pre-season game but the feeling with the same players, even being a pre-season game, if you look at the same players now playing, it looks like a different team and that is a good sign.”
