The seventh series of The Masked Singer UK kicked off on ITV on Saturday (January 3), with viewers attempting to work out who was hiding beneath the first batch of elaborate costumes.

The opening episode featured performances from Sloth, Can of Worms, Gargoyle, Disc Jockey and Moth. At the end of the night, Disc Jockey and Gargoyle landed in the danger zone after securing the fewest audience votes.

The panel – comprising Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama – chose to save Gargoyle, resulting in Disc Jockey becoming the first eliminated star of the series, with The One Show presenter Alex Jones subsequently being revealed.

Since then, audiences have been frantically deciphering the mysterious hints to identify the remaining performers, with one particular costume causing quite the stir on social media. After watching their first performance, numerous viewers reckon they’ve cracked the celebrity identity concealed within Can of Worms, reports the Mirror.

ITV audiences suspect that JLS singer Marvin Humes might be the mystery performer after recognising his distinctive tones during the character’s rendition of Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast.

During the clue package, Can of Worms was seen tending to plants, declaring: “Here’s my patch,” whilst discussing cultivating “beautiful things”. The character continued: “As a worm, I have green fingers… it runs in the family like it was written in the stars.”

Supporters theorise this might reference how each JLS member is linked to a particular colour, with Marvin’s signature shade being green. Elsewhere in the VT, a selection of pastries was showcased, hinting at a link to breakfast television, alongside a framed photograph of former Top Gear hosts James May and Richard Hammond.

Marvin does share ties to This Morning through his wife, Rochelle, who regularly presents the ITV show. Could viewers be picking up on something significant?

“Omg genuinely is Can of Worms Marvin Humes?! It sounds SO like him and the ‘green fingers’ thing – the green one in JLS,” one viewer posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Someone else commented: “Can of Worms sounds like Marvin Humes,” whilst a third declared: “Marvin Humes defo for Can of Worms.”

The Masked Singer returns this evening (Sunday, January 4), with six fresh characters making their stage debut. The line-up includes Conker, Toastie, Arctic Fox, Tea Bag, Yak and Monkey Business.

The episode will also feature performances from Emperor Penguin and their band the Antarctic Funkeys, after popstar Anne-Marie fronted the show’s first-ever live band as Goldfish on Saturday.

Audiences will need to wait until next week to witness Red Panda’s vocal talents after the celebrity’s performance was pulled from Saturday’s programme following the devastating fire that occurred in Switzerland this week.

An ITV spokesperson stated: “In light of the tragic events in Switzerland, we took the decision to remove Red Panda’s performance on The Masked Singer owing to potential insensitivities within the theme and lyrics of the song. Viewers will get to see Red Panda perform in the coming weeks.”
