Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh did not mince his words after hearing of Ruben Amorim‘s brutal sacking.

Manchester United made the decision to part ways with the 40-year-old after his stunning post-match rant following the club’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, just three points behind fourth-place Liverpool.

United said in a statement issued on Monday morning that the Portuguese, who took charge in November 2024, had left the role, with the club’s leadership having “reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change”. The club added in the statement: “This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”

Many have been left shocked by the decision, and it has not taken long for Alalshikh to offer his verdict. Rather than sharing a few words about the departed boss, the 44-year-old instead opted to throw a cheeky verbal jab at the Glazers. Taking to social media, he wrote: “Praise be to God … finally … may the Glazer [family] follow soon.”

Alalshikh has become a prominent figure in the world of boxing, bringing several world class fights to Saudi Arabia. That said, he does boast a glittering CV across other sports. He owned Spanish football club Almeria from 2019 until earlier this year, as well as owning Egyptian club Pyramids FC between 2018 and 2019.

Back in September, reports emerged that he was reportedly preparing a bid to buy Championship side Bristol City. Alalshikh has grabbed the headlines over the last few months, but not because of his escapades in the world of boxing. In October, the 44-year-old sent United fans into frenzy after claiming a takeover for the club was at an advanced stage.

Posting on his X account, he declared: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor. I hope he’s better than the previous owners.” The post emerged merely hours after an interview with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was published, in which he offered no hint of plans to surrender control at Old Trafford.

Amid confusion, Alalshikh later clarified that he wasn’t the potential investor, stating: “Yesterday’s post about Manchester United’s potential sale meant one thing: the club is in an advanced negotiation phase with a new investor. Just to clarify, I am not the investor, nor are they from my nation. I’m posting this as a fan who wishes the deal to happen, though it might not necessarily happen.”

Not long after his comments, United officials were left confused by Alalshikh’s posts online, claiming that the report were ‘news to them’. The Times’ Charlotte Duncker later revealed how Ratcliffe could be left with no option if the Glazers decided to sell the club. “I think for the right price, they definitely would. There is a clause within Ratcliffe’s agreement when he bought the club – I think it was triggered in August this year – that meant if the right offer came in – and I think that it was over something like $33 a share – that the Glazers could sell the whole club.

“Not just their portion of it, but Sir Ratcliffe will be bought out, as well, so there is potential that the Glazers could sell the entire club but, at the minute, it just seems like a strange one with this news, this hype and this excitement that’s been triggered by this one tweet.”

The Glazer family have endured some harsh criticism from fans over the millions of dollars of debt accrued since their takeover two decades ago. That said, they have maintained a majority stake in the club. In 2024, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe finalised a deal to purchase a 27.7 per cent stake in the club – valued at approximately $1.6billion (£1.25bn). As well as the agreement, Ratcliffe assumed control of football operations, assisted by Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada.
