NRL and England star centre Herbie Farnworth has offered an update on his long-term future at the Dolphins.
Farnworth, 26, signed an extension on his current deal with the Dolphins in October which ensured he is contracted until the end of the 2027 season.
That helped stave away any suggestions and rumours that he would be one of Perth Bears’ marquee players with the West Coast-based outfit set to join the NRL for the start of the 2027 campaign.
Despite that extension, it’s not helped put all the rumours to bed so the Englishman has now done that himself when speaking to the AAP.
“I’ll put the rumours to be, I’m happy here at the club,” said Farnworth, before explaining how and why the extended deal was done.
“It just kind of worked well for both parties. Obviously I want to stay here long-term and we can get something done, but it takes the pressure off both of us.”
Dolphins tipped to make NRL history with play-off charge in 2026
Farnworth joined the Dolphins ahead of the 2024 season, one year into their NRL venture, but the Redcliffe-based sided are yet to make the play-offs.
That’s something that Farnworth thinks can change this year with a number of strong additions made to the club, who only narrowly missed out in 2025.
The Phins missed out by two points but also managed to score the most points in the NRL, highlighting how devastating their attack can be and it’s only set to improve with the arrival of Farnworth’s former Brisbane Broncos teammate Selwyn Cobbo.
Cobbo isn’t the only big addition and such recruitment has encouraged Farnworth of the fact the Dolphins can finally make the top eight in 2026.
“I think we’ve got the team to do it,” he declared.
“We’ve got a lot of good players coming in. Selwyn’s come across, Morgan Knowles – a fellow Englishman (from St Helens) – so we’ve got a really strong squad and those young guys have stepped up.”
Knowles was one of the standout forwards in Super League in 2025 as well as being one of England’s best performers in the Ashes, alongside Farnworth, with the two now reuniting to hopefully land the Dolphins their first-ever play-off appearance.
