Local residents have been told they can either wait for the next collection or go to their nearest recycling centre and do it themselves

Households in South Gloucestershire have been given an explanation as to why their bins were not collected as normal this week.
On Tuesday (December 30) the council’s StreetCare team announced that waste collectors would not be able to reach every household due to an ‘abnormally large amount’ of recycling.
Residents were told the team would try and collect any missed collections on Wednesday (New Year’s Eve) – however in a Facebook post yesterday the council announced there had simply been too much to sort out for the normal collections to take place.
They said: “Due to the large amount of recycling following the Christmas period, we were not able to collect all household recycling on Wednesday December 31. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“If we have not collected your recycling, please store it safely until your next collection day.
“If you have additional recycling at your next collection, you can put this out with your recycling boxes. Use a container or put it in tied plastic bags. Please make sure any additional materials are sorted, as mixed recycling cannot be safely collected from plastic bags.”
Rather than wait until the next collection, some households may prefer to take their recycling to either the Mangotsfield, Thornbury or Yate ‘Sort It’ recycling centres.
The local authority said there are spaces available at all of its sites over the next week.
