Grantchester, ITV’s beloved detective drama, returns to screens tonight for its penultimate season. Starring Robson Green as DI Geordie Keating, the series has been running for over 10 years and follows the detective as he solves cases alongside the village’s Anglican vicar.
The first vicar was played by James Norton, with Tom Brittney taking over the collar in season four and Rishi Nair in season nine.
The first episode of season 10 will air on ITV tonight at 9pm, with weekly episodes dropping at the same time for the next eight Wednesdays.
The long-running drama has proved to be a huge hit with fans, who find it a comforting watch with a good heap of mystery.
One IMDB viewer wrote: “The last time I was this caught up in a British detective series was with Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes. Yes; it’s that good – even better.”

Another fan wrote: “I can’t recall seeing a bad episode, always consistent. I’m impressed how they manage to make each episode feel so unique, and the personal lives of the lead duo add to the story.”
Meanwhile fans of the show recently had their hopes raised and then quickly dashed after seeing a photo of Norton and Green reuniting last year.
Many thought the reunion meant Norton would be returning for the penultimate season, but sadly the whole thing was just a crazy coincidence.
As Green explained during a press Q&A last month: “That was nuts. I’m sat next to Kacey [Ainsworth] and we’re all having dinner in a restaurant, and we’re all there just reminiscing, of course, and talking about our favourite subject… ourselves.

“And this guy walks in, very tall, incredibly charismatic, sits in the corner, starts reading a book. And I’m thinking, ‘That can’t be… that cannot be James Norton?’ And it was [him]. He turns around and he goes, ‘WTF!’ And we go, ‘WTF!’ And we sit down and reminisce.”
Green went on to reveal that both Norton and Brittney later attended the show’s wrap party with the cast and crew.
“It was just beautiful. The stars were aligned that evening,” Green continued. “It was joyous on so many levels, and [executive producer] Emma [Kingsman-Lloyd] gave us a knockout speech there, just reminding us all of what a beautiful journey it’s been.”
