SYLHET: Experienced all-rounder Nasir Hossain’s unbeaten 90-run knock powered Dhaka Capitals to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over rock-bottom Noakhali Express in the 15th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 here at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Put into bat first, the Express registered a modest total of 133/6 in their allotted 20 overs despite a brisk 90-run partnership between captain Haider Ali and veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.
The bottom-placed side got off to a dismal start to their innings as they had been reduced to 40/5 in 9.3 overs despite Maaz Sadaqat’s gutsy 24 off 19 deliveries.
Following the slump, Haider and Nabi joined forces and put together a 90-run partnership, which culminated on the third delivery of the final over with former’s dismissal, who remained the top-scorer with a 36-ball 47, laced with three fours and a six.
Nabi, on the other hand, returned unbeaten after scoring a 33-ball 42, featuring two sixes and as many fours.
For the Capitals, Imad Wasim, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Ziaur Rahman, Abdullah Al Mamun and Nasir picked up one wicket apiece.
Set to chase a modest 134-run target, the Capitals comfortably struck the winning runs for the loss of just three wickets 35 balls to spare, courtesy of Nasir’s monumental knock.
The Capitals, however, had a contrasting start to the pursuit as Hasan Mahmud dismissed both their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (zero) and Al Mamun (one) inside three overs with just 14 runs on the board.
Following the early setbacks, Nasir walked out to bat at No.3 and turned the game on its head with belligerent hitting.
The experienced all-rounder knitted a one-sided 59-run partnership for the third wicket with Irfaan Shukkur, who could contribute 12 off 11 deliveries, before putting together a match-winning 61-run stand with Imad Wasim, who made an unbeaten 29 off 16 deliveries, laced with two fours and a six.
Nasir top-scored with an unbeaten 90 off 50 deliveries, studded with 14 fours and two sixes and thus bagged the Player of the Match award.
For the Express, Mahmud bagged two wickets, while Zahir Khan could take one.
Notably, despite the seven-wicket victory, Dhaka Capitals remained fifth in the BPL 2025-26 standings with four points in five matches, while Noakhali Express remained at the bottom as they are yet to taste a triumph.
