Ace India batter Virat Kohli’s sudden social media presence has taken the internet by storm, with the star cricketer posting three pictures from the nets sessions ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara, which sparked a massive uproar among netizens.

For Kohli and his fans, it marks a refreshing shift. Supporters have long been eager for a glimpse into his preparation ahead of major series, something missing from his social media presence in recent years.

Kohli has limited his Instagram activity to commercial endorsements, holiday posts with his wife Anushka Sharma and messages marking major career milestones. These have included celebrations after India’s T20 World Cup win, the Champions Trophy victory and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title success.

Multiple fans have voiced disappointment over Kohli’s reduced social media engagement. Once active online, he has in recent years limited his posts to a few select themes, making this latest training update all the more noteworthy.

Kohli arrived in Vadodara earlier this week, all set to host a men’s ODI for the first time on Sunday, January 11 and started his preparations. He was mobbed by fans at the airport on Wednesday.

Kohli rang in the New Year with family and friends in Dubai before returning to India for his ODI duties. In December, he featured in two Vijay Hazare Trophy games, marking his return to the domestic 50-over tournament after 16 years.

Kohli has been in imperious form, after a brilliant 131 with a fluent 77 in his two outings. During this streak, he went past 16,000 List A runs, becoming the fastest player to reach the milestone and going past batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

Kohli will be eager to continue his rich form when India face New Zealand on Sunday, January 11.
