Christchurch Round Table has been running a Christmas tree recycling scheme across Christchurch, Highcliffe, Mudeford, Southbourne and surrounding areas.
For a £10 donation, residents booked for their real Christmas trees to be collected directly from their homes and responsibly recycled.
The group raised £5,925 from 501 trees, will money raised going to Macmillan Caring Locally – a specialist palliative care unit and hospice based in Christchurch Hospital -and to community causes in Christchurch.
The project was made possible thanks to the generosity of businesses and volunteers.
Mark from Lank Mark & Sons kindly donated his time and equipment to chip and recycle the tree, Economy Hire Ringwood donated the hire vans for both collection weekends and dozens of Christchurch Round Table volunteers gave up their time to organise routes and collect trees
Kevin Barnes, one of the organisers from Christchurch Round Table and a volunteer said: “A huge thank you to the residents who trusted us to collect their trees and support such a great cause.
“It’s been a real community effort, combining recycling, volunteering and fundraising for a vital local charity.”
