Avid Leeds United supporter Josh Warrington joined up with one of the Leeds United Foundation’s Healthy Holiday camps at Reynolds Boxing Academy to help occupy the children over the recent Christmas break.
The club’s official charity delivers Healthy Holiday camps during every school break to provide children with activities and healthy meals during non-term-time. The camps are vital for some families in our local community to support them with food and childcare at such an important time.
Josh Warrington, who is a two-time featherweight world champion and a local inspiration to many youngsters, made a special appearance at Reynolds Boxing Academy to share some words of advice with the children about his career, and how they can get into boxing too.
“Meeting some of the kids and getting beaten up the majority of the morning – it was all good fun,” Warrington commented. “Over the Christmas holidays, some of the kids can get a bit bored, and I think it’s just a bit of a focus.
“I grew up around this neck of the woods and said to some of the coaches, we didn’t have anything like that when we were growing up. I think it’s shown how far the club has come in terms of the community aspects and branching out to different kids in different areas of Leeds.
“I’ve seen some naturals, you know. Some of the children have got some natural technique. Talk about me having a decent engine, but some of these kids are like Duracell batteries, they kept going all day! So many potential girls and boys who could be the next world champion.”
