A former Glasgow heavyweight is hoping to show how boxing can be a force for good by helping his brother into launching an exciting new event.
RT Elite Promotions are bringing their Warriors of the Ring promotion to the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew on January 25 with the event set to be the first of its kind in Scotland. This event is brought to you by Shehbaz Parnez, younger brother of former boxer Raz Parnez.
Shehbaz set up RT Elite Promotions to use boxing as a platform to develop confidence, character, and community, giving everyday people the chance to train properly, compete safely, and challenge themselves in a professional environment, all under the guidance and knowledge of Raz Parnez.
The evening event will offer boxing fans the chance to enjoy a six course Indian meal, was well as enjoy a full boxing card, where there will be a minimum of 10 fights on the night, as well as a memorabilia auction to raise funds for Diabetes UK, with tickets on sale now from the eventbrite website.
Raz said: “We are excited to bring this event to the city, it’s going to be an amazing evening with some great stories. We want to engage everyone to take part and enjoy the show. We are also hoping to help and discover top Asian talent across the city.
“We’ve been running an eight week training camp ahead of the event, and we have everyone from people who have never fought before to established fighters looking to enjoy the night. We also have a mixture of ages across a range of weight categories, in fact our oldest person taking part will be 60 years old.
Raz added: “Waheed Sadiq, is the oldest participant on the card at 60 years old at the time of the event. A lifelong boxing enthusiast and a true example of resilience and discipline, proving that age is no barrier to personal challenge, fitness, and ambition. His participation has already inspired many within the local community.”
The duo will also have another fighter on the card, Leonard Nedd, a 6’5” heavyweight, who is currently subject to an electronic monitoring tag; however, for the purpose of this officially sanctioned event, arrangements will be in place for the tag to be temporarily voided, allowing him to take part.
“Leonard has fully committed to training and sees this opportunity as a positive step forward, using sport as a vehicle for structure, discipline, and personal development,” Said Raz. “Both him and Waheed highlight how boxing can be used as a force for good — encouraging accountability, confidence, and community engagement.”
The event is being held in support of Diabetes UK, raising awareness and funds for a condition that affects millions across the UK.
Describing the event as a passion project, Raz said: “I’ve always been involved in boxing and working with my brother, we are excited to bringing an event like this to Scotland for the first time. People won’t be disappointed, they can come enjoy a night of boxing and great food and tickets are available now.”
Beyond these fight nights, the first of which will be their inaugural event, RT Elite is committed to creating positive impact through community engagement, charitable causes, and long-term pathways within the sport.
They also have big plans for the future, including creating a series of championships at every weight category.
Tickets are available now from the eventbrite website.
