Former Hull FC and Hull KR half-back Jordan Abdull made his long awaited professional rugby league comeback on Friday night.

Pulling on the black and white of Widnes Vikings, Abdull featured in the Chemics’ pre-season meeting with Warrington Wolves, appearing for an hour or so of the local derby clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

It was Abdull’s first game since his mutual release from Hull FC in January last year, with the player and club parting ways after a knee injury disrupted his pre-season.

The 29-year-old, who turns 30 next month, then opted to take the full year out of the game, signing for Widnes last autumn ahead of the 2026 season.

And following his first outing for his new club, Widnes head coach Craig Coleman is tipping the former England international to get ‘better and better’ for the Vikings, who begin their Championship season away at London Broncos this weekend.

Speaking after Warrington’s 50-12 victory, Coleman said on Abdull, who laced the boots up for the first time since September 2024: “I was really happy with him for his first game. He looked like he was enjoying it, which is a big thing for him. If he can enjoy his rugby, he’ll just get better and better. 100% he will.

“He tried some things, some things didn’t come off, he took quite a bit of ball up to line as well. They had to stop him and he’ll get sharper just doing that. I thought in the first 15-20 minutes, we looked really sharp with him and Joe (Lyons).“

Abdull made his senior debut for Hull in 2014 before spells at Hull KR, London Broncos, and Catalans Dragons. Revealing a conversation after the player came off the field on Friday, Coleman added: “He’s travelling round and coming in to the line, so it’s really pleasing.

“When he came off, I said, ‘How was that?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I felt great.’ I’m really pleased to see him get through it.”
