Ramsdale is currently on loan at Newcastle United from Southampton

Aaron Ramsdale is hopeful he will have more days like Saturday’s penalty shootout win over Bournemouth at Newcastle United in the future.
Ramsdale emerged as the hero as he saved three spot-kicks at St James’ Park to send the Magpies through to the FA Cup fourth round after the two sides played out a 3-3 draw over 120 minutes.
The England international goalkeeper started his first match since losing his place to Nick Pope following his rival’s return from injury, in Newcastle’s 3-1 win at Burnley, and made his mark with some big saves in the game, as well as the penalty shootout.
But while he has largely played second fiddle for United this season, he has started every match so far in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and he was proud to make a ‘little indent in the club’s history’ with his contribution in a dramatic cup win.
“Absolutely,” Ramsdale said when asked if it was nice to finally have his big moment at the club.
“I knew the situation coming in. I had a fight on my hands with Nick. There were no promises that I would even get in the team. Obviously, with Nick having a little injury it brought me to the forefront.
“Now there’s some little sort of indent in club’s history. It’s not a massive one, it’s only the third round of the FA Cup, but I’ve helped the team in this instance to get through.
“I look forward to more days like this, hopefully, for me at this football club in the future as well.”
And his future on Tyneside is set to become a major topic of conversation between now and the end of the season.
Ramsdale joined Newcastle from Championship side Southampton on a loan deal in the summer but there is no obligation to turn that into a permanent deal.
Conversations will take place over whether Ramsdale’s stay will extend beyond this season, particularly given the fact he has been a Premier League number one for the majority of his career but has had to settle for an understudy role at Newcastle.
But Eddie Howe is a big fan of the goalkeeper who also played under him at Bournemouth, and Ramsdale has hinted he would like to stay beyond his initial loan spell by admitting he has fallen in love with the club.
“I fell in love with it before I even signed,” Ramsdale added when asked if he wanted to make the move to Newcastle long-term.
“Playing up here, the atmosphere, My personality with the fans allows me to be myself and allows me to have the energy and attitude I have. So I didn’t need to play or experience it – I already felt it.”
