Bernie Winter actor Jane Hazlegrove has broken down the mystery burglary plot set to unfold in Coronation Street when her character marries Dev Alahan.

Dev and Bernie’s big day isn’t set to go off without a hitch as the couple are faced with shocking revelations and a mystery relative of Dev’s turning up.

To make matters worse, Bernie realises that she has forgotten her lucky charm locket that contains a photo of her late son, Paul Foreman. She returns home to get it, but when she does, she discovers a burglary in progress.

Opening up about the chaotic nuptials, Hazlegrove says the morning of the wedding, Bernie is filled with nerves and excitement, as well as a deep sense of grief that Paul is not there to walk her down the aisle.

“It’s a massive life-changing moment,” she explained. “She’s not a woman who believes in marriage and sees it as a patriarchal conceit, which is what she’s said all along.

“For her to smash those principles, it’s a massive day, and to be marrying this respectable guy in the community.”

The burglary is more complicated than meets the eye, with Bernie facing a seemingly tough choice when she realises who is behind it all.

“Somebody has broken into the house. Bernie decides she’s going to stand up to them, then it’s revealed who it is,” Hazlegrove continued.

While she didn’t reveal who is behind the balaclava, she teased: “It gives Bernie food for thought and something to sort out, and not exactly what she needs before she’s about to go and say I do.”

Speaking to My Weekly magazine, the actor also shared more about the health issues Bernie is set to face on her wedding day when she collapses down the aisle.

Fans don’t need to worry about a sudden exit for the star, after she said the fainting episode is due to allergies.
