It was a different story this time around for the Tyneside club, who were beaten 1-0 at home by Pep Guardiola’s team.
Ahead of the tie, Newcastle’s captain was asked to assess the tie and compare it to the team’s clash with the Gunners from last term.
Bruno Guimaraes thinks Man City is tougher than facing Arsenal
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has made the rather outlandish claim that facing Man City is tougher than Arsenal.
Guimaraes and Newcastle were beaten by Arsenal earlier this season after Gabriel Magalhaes’ late header secured three points at St James’ Park.

On Wednesday, Arsenal travel away to Chelsea for the first leg of the Carabao Cup final, and it looks like the winner will face City at Wembley Stadium.
Arsenal sent Premier League title warning by Manchester City
Manchester City certainly fired a Premier League title warning to Arsenal, with a hugely impressive display on Tyneside.
Even without Erling Haaland scoring, Semenyo and Cherki were on hand to show the Gunners that they also have great squad depth.
The arrival of Semenyo looks to be a real statement from Guardiola’s team, with the winger quickly settling into life at the Etihad.
He already has two goals in two matches and was very unlucky to have a third ruled out by VAR during the tie.
