Lewis Koumas had found his game-time limited at Birmingham City but the Liverpool loanee has started their last two games

Lewis Koumas has revealed he has held transfer talks with Liverpool, but is content to remain on loan at Birmingham City after forcing his way into their starting XI in recent weeks. The Wales international enjoyed a successful loan in the Championship with Stoke City last season, returning six goals and three assists from 49 appearances, 31 of which came from the start.
The 20-year-old, who scored on his Reds debut against Southampton back in February 2024, returned to the Championship on loan as he signed for Birmingham back in August.
However, he has found starting opportunities limited at St. Andrew’s. Making 23 appearances to date, the forward has started only seven times.

Meanwhile, he only scored his first goal for the club at the start of this month in a 3-2 victory over league-leaders Coventry City when handed a rare start.
The Welshman had been linked with a premature return to Liverpool, given his limited game-time, having found himself behind the likes of Demarai Gray in the pecking order.
Koumas had held talks with his parent club about his situation as a result.
But with the former Everton winger currently sidelined through injury, and Koumas also impressing in the FA Cup against Cambridge United last weekend in Gray’s absence as he made it back-to-back starts, the Reds loanee is not rushing into a decision about his Birmingham future after belatedly being handed further opportunities by manager Chris Davies in his favoured position.
“We’ve obviously had conversations (with Liverpool) but I’m keeping my head down, working hard and we’ll see what happens,” he told ECHO sister-site, Birmingham Live. “Last year I played 49 games and started a big majority of them.
“It’s been a different start this year but whenever I get put in, I’m ready to give my best.
“I really like the gaffer. He sees my attributes well. We spoke about it before I came in and I’ve been working hard in training for months and months now, just so I’m ready when I go on the pitch.
“Getting a goal, especially against a team like Coventry, boosts your confidence instantly. Me being a confidence player, I need that to go and perform freely without any sort of pressure on my back.”
