An update has been issued on Manchester United-linked Corentin Tolisso this summer.
Reports from French publication L’Equipe claim that the Reds have contacted Tolisso’s representatives. The former France international could replace the now-departed Christian Eriksen in midfield.
That theory has been reinforced by recent claims that United’s next priority will be a new central midfielder once a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is agreed. The Manchester Evening News understands that United are still working on a deal to sign Mbeumo so he can feature on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
And journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Reds’ search for a new midfielder may include Lyon’s Tolisso.
“He’s one of several players offered to Manchester United in recent weeks,” Romano claimed in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.
Tolisso scored 10 goals and provided nine assists across all competitions for Lyon last season – helping them reach the Europa League quarterfinals, where they lost in dramatic fashion to United.
It is reported that the 30-year-old does not necessarily want to leave the Ligue 1 club. However, his form last season and Lyon’s financial issues could result in a deal.
Lyon still reportedly want to keep Tolisso, having made him captain after Alexandre Lacazette’s departure, but Saudi club Neom are also said to be interested.
The World Cup winner has already rebuffed approaches from Turkish clubs and it is claimed that Atletico Madrid are also interested in his services. Tolisso is said to be viewed as a potential replacement for Rodrigo De Paul as he closes in on a move to Inter Miami.
“There’s nothing official,” Miami boss Javier Mascherano said when asked about De Paul.
“I’ve seen the reports, but I always try to be cautious. He’s a player from another club, and I prefer not to talk about players who don’t belong to us.”
