The Spanish broadcaster RTVE has confirmed that it will not be returning to Eurovision Young Musicians in 2026.

Speaking to Eurofestivales, RTVE has confirmed that they will not be competing in Eurovision Young Musicians 2026. In a statement, they explained they will not be competing for “various reasons”, but are open to competing in the future. RTVE is set to launch a new cultural TV station in June, which opens the potential for a return to the contest.

Spain has participated eight times in Eurovision Young Musicians having made its debut in 1988. Spain competed in every edition until 2000, before returning to the contest in 2018. Sara Valencia represented Spain at the contest but failed to qualify for the final.

Eurovision Young Musicians 2026 will take place on June 6 in Yerevan. This will be the third time that a Eurovision contest has been held in the city. To date, the following countries have confirmed participation:

ORF of Austria and NRK of Norway, who competed in the 2024 contest, have both withdrawn from the contest, while France Télévisions of France and SRF of Switzerland have not confirmed publicly whether they will be competing.
