Tripping Kosher, the popular YouTube channel known for exploring kosher eateries, has spotlighted Midnight Owl, a craft brewery and restaurant in the suburb of Cleveland in Ohio.
The episode follows host Chaim Silverberg as he visits the kosher-certified brewpub and sits down with the man behind its transformation: Mendel Segal, known as “RaBBi-Q.”
Silverberg was drawn to Midnight Owl’s blend of community spirit, elevated comfort food, and craft beer—all within the bounds of kashrus under Cleveland Kosher.
“Today I visit my friend Mendel Segal in Cleveland, Ohio where he is running a fully glatt kosher brewpub,” Silverberg says in the episode. “It’s like a Jewish community center with comfort food and good beer. Something that will make Tucker Carlson very unhappy to see.”
Midnight Owl is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Joel Warger and Rosemary Mudry, who opened the space to create a community hub.
In July 2025, the couple partnered with Segal to fully transition the brewery’s kitchen and beer operations to kosher, making it one of the only establishments of its kind in the United States.
Segal, an Orthodox rabbi and award-winning pitmaster, is no stranger to ambitious culinary projects. Known nationally for his signature Kansas City-style BBQ, he’s the force behind the brand, Mendel’s Kansas City BBQ.
His collaboration with Midnight Owl brings an exciting twist to the kosher food scene: a local brewpub where guests can enjoy smoked wings, craft beers, and bar food classics—all under rabbinic supervision.
During the episode, Silverberg samples an array of crave-worthy bites, including frickles (fried pickles), empanadas, hot dogs, and classic chicken wings, all made fresh in-house and paired with Midnight Owl’s craft brews.
“It’s perfect beer food personified,” he declares, offering high praise for both the kitchen and the concept.
