The Traitors fans are saying that Stephen may have ‘messed up’ in a blink and you’ll miss it moment on the BBC series.
It proved to be one of the most intense episodes to date on Wednesday night’s (January 14) installment of the Claudia Winkleman series. Fans had to wait a week to see what came of Matt’s meeting with traitors Stephen and Rachel.
With both of the traitors’ identities hidden as they stayed in a confessions booth. Matt asked them to murder Jessie and skip the following murder and recruit him to join them in the turret.
Hearing Rachel and Stephen agree to his plan, Matt said: “We have a new recruit. I wanted to be a traitor from the very beginning, so keep my cloak warm… Obviously I don’t know what I’m walking into, they could screw me over here. If you can’t beat them, join them.”
Up next to meet the traitors was Harriet, who revealed that she’s a crime novelist and former criminal barrister. Asking who they’d like to recruit, Harriet was informed it would either be her, Jessie or Sam.
“I think this answer is not worth the paper it was written on. If my voice is shaking it not through nerves, but through anger you have taken me for such a fool,” Harriet replied.
In an explosive moment, Harriet revealed that she’s adamant Rachel is a traitor and won’t rest until she catches her. Stephen assured Rachel that he has her back and wrote down that he wouldn’t protect her and to ‘take her’ after Harriet asked would he throw her under the bus.

Harriet then warned them in another stunning moment: “I bet you killed me when you had the chance.”
When it came time for breakfast, Harriet shared her real job with the rest of the faithfuls before calling Rachel out again, this time in front of everyone. This appeared to spark a civil war within the castle as the contestants were divided over who was telling the truth.
Worried that Harriet was onto him, Stephen approached Harriet in the kitchen in hope of receiving reassurance. However, Stephen brought up that she warned about people protecting Rachel at the roundtable.
Those watching the programme at home rushed to X, previously known as Twitter, to point out that Stephen got confused about the moment and actually mentioned the exchange they had in the church.
@retired_winger said: “Did Stephen just tell Harriet what she said about protecting Rachel #TheTraitors.” @ShazzaW added: “Has Stephen just done it again? Harriet said about protecting Rachel last night, not this morning! #TheTraitors.”
@theVARdict wrote: “Ooops. I think Stephen might have just dropped his camouflage… He said to Harriet, ‘you said at the table to watch out for people protecting Rachel’. Oh Stephen. She didn’t say that at the table. SHE SAID IT AT THE CONFESSIONAL. #Traitors #TheTraitors.”
@abbief0x commented: “How Stephen has now got away scot free I will never know #TheTraitors #TheTraitorsUK.” @faavourr posted: “No but how has Stephen escaped this like.”
