Many people have hailed Moses Itauma as the future of boxing, but Derek Chisora thinks he will have one problem.
Itauma is 21-years-old and has stopped 11 of his last 13 opponents so far and looked good doing it. He is a big hitter with technical skills, good footwork and a southpaw stance that causes opponents a different set of problems to deal with.
Speaking to First Round TV, ‘Del Boy’ was asked about Itauma’s future and he agreed it is bright but will also suffer from a lack of real competition.
“Moses Itauma, yeah man, because there is no one up at heavyweight who fights southpaw and can bang like him. Put it this way, the problem they will have with Moses is no one wants to fight him.
“Tyson retires, myself retires, AJ retires, Dillian retires, who else, Usyk retires, OK great, Moses versus Lawrence Okolie, its a fight I would love to watch but I’m not going to rush to spend my money to watch it.
Moses versus Fabio, amazing fight, which I know will only go four or five rounds, yeah ill pay to watch it, Moses versus Agit Kabayel, cracking fight for both fighters, so when I look at those three, that’s it.”
“In America, there’s nothing else, there’s no one else coming up with anything exciting, yeh so Moses Itauma will be carrying the flag for the whole world but he’s not going to have any opponents to fight cause nobody’s gunna want to get their ass whooped.”
Should Itauma clear out those three big names, he will deservedly be the divisional top dog, but first, he has to recover from the injury that has postponed his fight with Jermaine Franklin until late March.
