When Sydney woman Bertilla Girotto died in 2022, at age 90, she left a will and detailed instructions about how she wanted her youngest son and live-in carer, Dante, to inherit the bulk of her $3.6 million estate.

Bertilla’s eldest son, Maurisio, received $300,000 and brought a family provision claim seeking a “fair” share, which he said would be half of the estate.
