Manchester United are tempted to make a loan signing in January if they can identify a suitable player who will help give Michael Carrick’s team an extra edge for the remainder of the season.
It has been a busy week at Manchester United with Michael Carrick appointed head coach.
Carrick won the race for the temporary role after seeing off stiff competition from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The former United and England midfielder, 44, has been tasked with steadying the ship at Old Trafford by securing Champions League qualification.

Following United’s decision to sack Ruben Amorim, Darren Fletcher stepped in as caretaker head coach for two matches, including a 2-1 defeat against Brighton in the FA Cup third round.
Carrick will be looking for United to get back to winning ways after a run of four matches without a victory. His first test is the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Several wingers left United during Amorim’s 14-month reign.
United fans will agree that most of those players – Antony and Jadon Sancho – no longer belong at the club. They will forever be deemed expensive flops at Old Trafford.
The problem now is that, with Carrick set to play a different system than Amorim, he has a shortage of options on the wing. It remains to be seen how he wants to line up with the players available to him.
According to Pete O’Rourke from Footy Insider, United are exploring a move to sign a new left winger on loan this month.
It is understood that a left-sided winger is the top priority in January if United can find a player of the right profile.
This suggests a change in United’s stance on the January transfer market from when Amorim was in charge of the team. Maybe that is why they are limiting themselves to a loan signing rather than anything permanent until a long-term head coach is appointed in the summer.
Another wide player let go by United is Marcus Rashford, who is likely to remain at Barcelona after his loan deal expires.
Does Michael Carrick REALLY have traits like Carlo Ancelotti? Do you see it?!

Man Utd can lean on Michael Carrick’s knowledge of the Championship market
The loan market tends to be limited because clubs are far less likely to let top players leave temporarily.
After spending two and a half years in charge at Middlesbrough, United can lean on Carrick for additional knowledge of players in the Championship, who could make a difference at United.
Carrick worked with several talented young players at Middlesbrough, showing them enough patience to aid their development in the senior game.
Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney is a prime example, although he won’t be leaving on loan and plays in central midfield.
