The American will also be unavailable for tomorrow’s clash with Wrexham at the Racehorse Ground, and has joined up with the Canaries’ development sides this week rather than training with his team-mates.
City head coach Philippe Clement confirmed the disciplinary measure in his pre-match press conference, asserting that his focus is on gaining three points in north Wales.
“Sarge is training with the second team,” he said. “What he did was not acceptable for anybody in the club. He knows that that’s the situation now, so I don’t think there’s much more to say about that now.
“My focus is on our games, our battle to come out of this relegation zone and to focus on all the players available, getting the best out of them, getting good performances. There is my focus and the focus of everybody in the building.
“[He’s not in the matchday squad], but you can also have that when a player is injured. You can only control the controllable – that’s what we’re doing, and that’s to focus on the group that’s available.
“It’s been also in the past when I was here that he was not there, with the concussion for example, and other people stepped up and did the job and we got good results. We’re focusing on that with all the available players.”
Although Clement insists that Sargent won’t be sold against his club’s best interests, he admitted that you can never say never in football.
“I’ve said that he’s not going to leave in this window,” continued the 51-year-old. “It’s not going to happen. This club is in a relegation battle and he’s a player with a two and a half year contract.
“There’s alignment from everybody in the club: there needs to be an amount that everybody agrees with that is big enough to do it in this situation now.”
