Despite hanging up her tennis racket, Eugenie Bouchard continues to captivate her multitude of fans. The Canadian beauty, often referred to as the ‘world’s sexiest tennis star’, bid farewell to the sport last year at the National Bank Open in Montreal.
Although she didn’t quite reach the heights initially expected, the 31-year-old, who has taken up the growing sport of pickleball in recent, had a commendable career, reaching the Wimbledon final in 2014 and the semi-finals of both the Australian Open and French Open that same year. Bouchard has also gained notoriety off the court with her provocative social media posts. In 2024, she inked a deal with IMG Models “to expand her presence in the fashion industry.”
Her Instagram account is particularly popular, and she recently delighted her 2.3million followers with a throwback reel featuring stunning photos from 10 years ago. The collection included her Sports Illustrated cover shoot, various bikini and thong shots, and selfies with then-Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and music icon Celine Dion.
Captioning the post, Bouchard wrote: “2016: lots of bikinis, selfies, and one very bad decision (swipe to end).” The “bad decision” she refers to is a regrettable haircut.
While her bold social media antics have occasionally ruffled feathers among tennis traditionalists, Bouchard remains unapologetic about promoting herself to a broader audience.

Speaking to podcaster Valeria Lipovetsky, she said: “Tennis first of all is a great sport for that sex appeal side. I mean we’re wearing short skirts, we’re wearing tank tops. It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that.”
“Right away I was able to get great marketing deals off the court. Being asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition a few times. Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list, it’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s great.”
“Why keep myself in a box? Why not try to become bigger, or better, or transcend tennis, or explore other fields? Tennis is the only thing I know, but it can’t be the only thing I’ll ever do in my life.”

“So I found it very interesting to be in magazines or do fashion stuff and see that I really enjoyed these things as well.”
Following her emotional retirement in her hometown, she now has additional time to concentrate on her modelling, social media endeavours and pickleball, a racket sport which sees players use a smooth-faced paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch-high net.
Follow her last tennis match, she said: “I’ve always had a feeling I would end my career here. Montreal is where I was born and raised, so it just feels right.
“An emotional moment. I think I just wanted a moment like this because my career deserved a moment like this. I really think I got it tonight, and I’m so grateful for that.”
