A WASPI campaigner has been forced to work beyond age state pension age after being caught up in the scandal. WASPI women are campaigning for Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) compensation over historic injustices in the raising of the state pension age.
The Labour Party government has so far refused to issue payouts to women impacted. But late last year, ahead of Christmas, ministers hinted at a u-turn, after admitting new information had come to light.
In a heartbreaking fresh update, the WASPI campaign took to X, formerly Twitter, to share: “A man rang WASPI on Sunday. He didn’t know who else to contact. His wife was born in 1955 like me, and I listened to his story.

“His wife was a school dinner lady, and she like the women she worked with had no notice that their State Pension age was increasing.
“She developed a life changing illness, but continued to work, albeit part time until she was 67.
“He had some questions about WASPI which I was able to answer. He doesn’t get any reply from his MP.
“He has tried to speak to the DWP until the waiting time, and being cut off led him to despair.
“There is no Citizen’s Advice where he lives because it used to have an office, and then moved to the doctor’s surgery, and now it’s just online.
“They don’t use the internet, and don’t have email – they can’t get used to it. He completely understands that compensation would be for the the lack of notice we received, not the loss of State Pension.
“Talking to him made me realise why we’re doing this. This injustice that has affected 3.6 million women must be compensated – for his wife, the woman who dished out the fish fingers and mash for our children, and noticed the shy and the vulnerable ones, and the ones that were hungry.
“And also, for all of us. Justice delayed is justice denied. Please email your MP using our template letter if it’s the only thing you can do. Do it for the people who can’t do it for themselves.
“And help anyone you know who will struggle to do it for themselves.” WASPI women are calling for DWP payouts following an Ombudsman report.
The Ombudsman report, released in the spring of 2024, confirmed WASPI women are “failed” by the DWP. It also recommended compensation be paid.
Women should be compensated to the tune of a whopping £2,950, the Ombudsman added.
