Piers Morgan has disclosed that he’s had surgery after fracturing his femur so severely that he needed a hip replacement.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 60, informed his followers that he had tripped at a restaurant in London and would need to use crutches for several weeks to help with his movement.

The journalist also revealed he’s been banned from taking long-haul flights for the next three months and, in a surprising turn of events, blamed his long-time friend, President Donald Trump, for the incident.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: “Breaking news! 1. Tripped on a small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fractured femur. 4. So badly I needed a new hip. 5. Recovering in hospital. 6. Crutches for 6wks . 7. No long-haul for 12 wks . 8. New Year off to a cracking start! 9. I blame Donald Trump”

Piers also shared an X-ray image on Instagram showing the fracture from his fall. In response to his post, numerous celebrity friends rushed to offer their support.

Former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis replied: “Noooo. This is absurd!” accompanied by heart emojis.

Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, who has faced his own health struggles following unsuccessful back surgery, commented: “Well, sincere sympathies my friend but I am the expert in this field if you want advice or a visitor!”.

Meanwhile, former England cricketer Monty Panesar also left a message in the comments, writing: “Wishing you a quick recovery so you can celebrate Arsenal’s success!” Piers was photographed last month reuniting with his former co-host Susanna Reid and his wife Celia at the couple’s annual Christmas party.

Susanna was left stunned when Piers stormed off the Good Morning Britain set in 2021 following a heated argument over remarks he made about Meghan Markle, which he once again refused to apologise for last month, reports the Mirror.

After Meghan and Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Piers stated he didn’t believe anything they said, including the Suits actress’s revelation about experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Nearly five years on, the outspoken journalist maintained he stands by his decision to leave GMB, describing the couple’s interview as: “It was one of the most sickening attacks on our Royal Family, a monarchy, that I have ever seen.”

Insisting he wasn’t going to “grovel”, he continued: “I was not going to grovel and apologise to the people that perpetrated that attack. So I told them you can take your job and shove it where the tiaras don’t shine.”

Addressing his exit at the time, ITV released a statement saying: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
