After the Flood viewers were quick to say the same thing on Sunday night after the first episode of series two.

The hit ITV police drama was back with a new season on Sunday evening with detective Jo Marshall, played by Sophie Rundle, back on our screens.

Show watchers will recall that the first series of After the Flood saw an unidentified man found dead in an underground car park following a catastrophic flood.

A then PC Jo was tasked with uncovering the truth behind the man’s demise, leading to startling and shocking revelations.

In the upcoming series, we see Jo, a year later, now a detective, embarking on a perplexing new murder investigation. As Waterside grapples with the looming threat of moorland fires and potential subsequent flooding, a body is unearthed under peculiar circumstances.

Jo’s pursuit of the murderer puts her at odds with the town’s powerful and influential figures, ultimately ensnaring her in a deeply personal investigation.

To expose the corruption that has plagued the local police force – and her own family – for years, she will need to conduct her investigation covertly.

However, show watchers were quick to all say the same thing on Twitter, now X, following the first episode. Due to the new series focusing on wild and moorland fires, viewers suggested that the After the Flood title for the show wasn’t relevant anymore.

One person said: “There seems to be a flood of non-flood-related things going on #AfterTheFlood”, a different account put: “In a show called #AftertheFlood there should technically (if not realistically) be another flood”, another put: “#AfterTheFlood should be called “a year after the flood” while a different account added: “So Flood then Fire .. series 3, locusts on the moors? #AfterTheFlood.”

It comes as Sophie Rundle exclusively told us of the new series and what to expect: “I guess in a way, in the same way that Jo [her character] just kind of goes hurtling down that rabbit hole, so does the show, you know, it goes right to the brink.

“It’s a really good, well-deserved continuation of season two. There’s so much more story to be explored in it and it does go there, you know, it gives you that gripping murder mystery element.

“But you also think at this point, you really care about these characters and you’re rooting for them. So you want to find out what happens. I think the show, it serves that.”

After the Flood returns on Sunday, 18 January, at 9pm airing weekly on Sundays and Mondays on ITV. All episodes are available on ITVX.
