WhatsApp is now working on a secondary account feature, allowing parents to operate another account for their children.

These accounts, according to WA Beta Info, will have restrictions and limited capabilities.

The secondary accounts will be connected through a digital link, allowing parents to review and adjust key privacy settings that children often overlook. Messages and calls will be restricted to contacts only, automatically in these accounts.

At the moment, WhatsApp does not allow users to choose whether they want to receive messages and calls from everyone or from contacts only. Introducing such a capability is especially important for minors, and secondary accounts are designed to address this gap.

Will parents be able to access chats?

No, parents will not be able to access chats and calls themselves. However, they will receive reports related to the account and uage patterns.

End-to-end encryption will continue to protect chats and conversations on WhatsApp, keeping private exchanges inaccessible.

This setup is meant to support supervision without giving parents direct access to personal conversations.

The feature that offers primary controls to help parents manage secondary accounts with limited functionalities is currently under development.

WhatsApp is testing how the new parental tools integrate with existing account settings to ensure a smooth and intuitive experience.

The interface is being refined to make it easy for parents to configure a secondary account. Once released, parents will be able to ensure their child’s account is set with age-appropriate settings, making it easier to support their online safety.
