The use of IRIS instant payments soared between 2020 and 2025, both in terms of the number of transactions and in the range of their application, according to figures from DIAS Interbanking Systems SA on Saturday.
The number of transactions rose from 1.6 million in 2020, to 3.2 million in 2021, 8.2 million in 2022, 24.2 million in 2023 and 57.3 million in 2024.
This meteoric rise is also reflected in the official figures for 2025, when there was a historic record in the volume and value of transactions via IRIS. According to figures released last week, there were 540.4 million transactions via DIAS – a 15.7% increase on an annual basis – whose total value amounted to €544.4 billion. That marked a record in the company’s 36-year history.
Of the total transactions, 126.4 million were via IRIS Payments services and their total value was €10.9 billion. The daily average was 2.2 million transactions worth €2.2 billion, while in November there were a record 6 million transactions worth €3.5 billion, confirming the resilience and strength of DIAS infrastructure.
Seven in 10 instant payments are carried out via IRIS, with 4.25 million IRIS Person-to-Person users and 583,000 freelancers and businesses registered with IRIS Person to Professionals.
The increase in IRIS P2P transactions is 1.9 times that of 2024 and 158 times that of 2020, while IRIS P2Pro transactions are three times higher than in 2024 and 409 times higher than in 2020.
