Stacey Dooley tearfully broke down as she discussed her ectopic pregnancy. The TV star opened up in a new interview about the difficult time and the ‘dramatic’ operation she underwent after she started bleeding internally.
The 38-year-old mum shares daughter Minnie with Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton.
Joining Amy Jackson Westwick on her podcast, What’s The Tea, Amy?, Stacey revealed she got pregnant again last year and “it didn’t go brilliantly,” she shared.
“I couldn’t talk about it for such a long time without bursting into floods of tears. But now I can. It was ectopic and it was all dramatic.” She explained that it happened when she was in Liverpool and that she was told she was “bleeding internally” and would need “immediate surgery”.

She added: “I remember I was lying on the bed, about to go under, because it was all going t*** up.” The Luton born TV star praised Liverpool Women’s Hospital for how they cared for her.
This is not the first time Stacey has opened up about what happened. She previously struggled to hold back the tears as she revealed the news on her TV show Stacey Sleeps Over.
“I have experienced what it is like to struggle to have a child,” she said as she spoke to Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, Britain’s first legally recognised gay father, about surrogacy.

“We obviously wanted to expand our family, and last year I fell pregnant and it didn’t go brilliantly,” she said as she started to cry. “It was ectopic.”
She then started to apologise for crying: “I am so sorry because this is so predictable. I am sat here crying on a bed. It was ectopic and it was really f***ing difficult.”
Ectopic pregnancies affect roughly 11,000 pregnancies a year and occurs when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb. According to the NHS, such pregnancies can never be saved and usually have to be removed using medicine or an operation.
Reflecting on her experience, Stacey added that she had started to think of “alternative” ways to have children. “Of course, when you go through something like that, you are forced to think of alternatives. S**t happens, and if you want a bigger family, you have to think how you’re going to do that.”
Stacey shares her daughter Minnie with Kevin Clifton, who she met whilst dancing with him on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. The pair won the series and started dating the following year.
Stacey is not the only celebrity to open up about ectopic pregnancies. Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby, who now has two children, had an ectopic pregnancy in 2016 and almost died as a result. In 2022, Olympian Laura Kenny also opened up about having an ectopic pregnancy.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust provides dedicated information and support on ectopic pregnancy and you can visit their website on www.ectopic.org.uk.
