For one of the subterranean animals appears to have moved into the front garden of the house tipped to become his new home on the Sandringham Estate.
The front lawn at Marsh Farm, at Wolferton, is pock-marked with molehills – the heaps of soil the creatures throw up when digging burrows with their powerful front claws.

The molehills have appeared in recent weeks, as work has also started on renovating the property ready for the former Duke of York to move in.
As well as being avid burrowers, the Royal Horticultural Society says moles are also territorial – meaning a number of heaps could be the work of just one animal.

It adds: “Where possible, moles should be treated as part of the biodiversity that gardens support.
“Should the activities of a mole be considered too disruptive there are several steps which can be taken to mitigate its activities or encourage them to move elsewhere or control moles.”
It remains to be seen whether Mr Mountbatten-Windsor will allow his house guest to remain in-situ.

The King has appointed Sudbury-based Command Pest Control to deal with any unwanted visitors by granting a Royal Warrant.
One of its vans was seen near Marsh Farm earlier this week although it is not clear whether the visit was mole-related.
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor is being turfed out of Royal Lodge at Windsor after being stripped of his Royal titles by Charles III amid the scandal over his friendship with the American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He is expected to move into Marsh Farm, on the edge of Wolferton, around Easter and to live in temporary digs nearby until work on the property has been completed.
Work has been going on at the property since last week, with a tall security fence being put up to screen it from a nearby road, while CCTV and Sky TV have also been installed.
