As well as murder, arson, grievous bodily harm and stalking, EastEnders‘ Jasmine Fisher can now add libel to her series of crimes. In tonight’s episode (20 January), fans watched in horror as the teen, desperate to stop Max Branning from exposing her secrets, spread a vicious lie about him. Some now believe that the lie will lead to fatal consequences for her.
Throughout the episode, Jasmine planned to flee Walford, terrified that someone would find out she killed Anthony Trueman in self defence after he attacked her mother Zoe Slater and tried to hit her. Step one – convince her boyfriend, Oscar Branning to leave with her. Step two – find the money to jet off to Thailand.

After Oscar’s dad, Max, heard from Cindy Beale, who had her own near-fatal dealings with the teen, that Jasmine is not as nice as she seems, he got suspicious. Eavesdropping on a phone call between Jasmine and her adoptive mother, where she tried to extort her for the money to go to Thailand, he confronted her and said he would tell Oscar about her secrets.
A desperate Jasmine tried to threaten Max, and when that did not work, pushed him and screamed, pretending to Oscar and her grandmother Kat that Max tried to kiss her.

Jake Wood, who plays Max, has said that the other characters will believe Jasmine’s lie. On This Morning, he said: “Obviously, everyone is going to believe Jasmine over him.”
Likewise, fans are convinced Albert Square residents will take Jasmine’s side, as Max is known for being the Walford Womaniser and can’t seem to stop himself from hitting on women.
He’s even gone for young women connected to his children on more than one occasion – Stacey Slater, who he had an on and off again relationship with for years, was his son Bradley’s wife, and Max was also sleeping with Lucy Beale, his daughter Lauren’s best friend.

One fan wrote: “The way everyone’s gonna believe that Max kissed Jasmine bc of his track record is gonna take me out because for once in his life he’s actually telling the truth.”
Another agreed: “He has a reputation. A reputation he’s earned, but god Jasmineee” A third said: “Jasmine accusing Max of kissing her, and of course, everyone will believe her because Max has form. Jasmine really is putting fire with fire.”
One even branded Jasmine the “devil” for her actions: “Jasmine Fisher, the devil. And they’ll all just believe her nasty lie without giving Max a chance.”
But one thought Jasmine wouldn’t get away with it – because Lauren Branning will eventually kill her. “I’m beginning to think that Lauren kills Jasmine,” they wrote. Pointing to Lauren’s shiftiness and mysterious secrets in the New Year’s Day flashforward, they suggested Lauren would be getting revenge on her brother’s girlfriend. “That’s why Lauren has a very dark, serious, and secret double life in the flash forward episode, and that’s also why Jasmine isn’t even in the flash forward episode.”
