A beloved dad died from a cardiac condition he was not aware he suffered from after also unknowingly having a heart attack.
Michael John Silcock, known as Mike, passed away on July 30 last year at his Lawns Avenue home in Orrell, Wigan, aged 44.
The fire system engineer, originally from Billinge, had been living with narrowed coronary arteries without realising it.
An inquest at Preston Coroners’ Court on 13 January heard that a post-mortem examination revealed Mike had suffered from atherosclerotic coronary artery disease – a condition where blood vessels carrying oxygen and nutrients from the heart throughout the body become thickened and rigid.
Area Coroner Kate Bisset delivered a narrative conclusion, stating: “Michael John Silcock died on the 30th July 2025 at his home address as a consequence of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease with thrombosis and drug use.”
“Mr Silcock had, unknown to him, previously suffered a heart attack and had narrowed coronary arteries due to disease which he was not aware of.
“He consumed cocaine prior to his death which exacerbated his existing heart dysfunction and resulted in his death.”
Following his death, Mike was remembered as a “true friend to many”. The funeral notice read: “Mike’s humour and caring nature will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”
He was the son of the late John Silcock and Christine, a cherished brother to Rachel, husband to his beloved wife Katie, and father to Sophie, the late Jake Silcock, Jessica and Emma. The world has lost a true legend far too early.”
