Sir Elton John shared a devastating update to his Instagram account as fans flooded him with messages of support. The Rocketman singer shared a simple two-word statement as he fondly remembered fashion legend Valentino.

The 78-year-old superstar posted a picture of the two men standing together, both suited and booted, seemingly at a swanky event. Valentino wore a velvet-looking tuxedo, finished off with a crisp white shirt and a black dickie bow. Elton also wore a dark suit, with one of his buttons done up and a red and black necktie to complete the look. Captioning the post, Elton penned: “THE Maestro #RIP.” Fans of both men flooded the comments with heartbroken and tearful emojis, while others shared their condolences. One person wrote: “Rest In Peace Legend,” while another added: “Thank you for sharing a lovely photo Sir Elton, in memory of your friend..God Bless.” One more said: “So sad my condolences. Rest in Peace.” Elton’s husband, David Furnish, also paid tribute to the late designer. In an Instagram post, he emotionally penned: “Thank you for all the beauty you brought to our world.

“You were always so kind to Elton and me – and radiated class and elegance in everything you did.

“My deepest condolences to Giancarlo, Bruce, Carlos and all of the extended Valentino family and friends.”

The great fashion designer, who’s full name was Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, died on Monday aged 93.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation said: “He passed away peacefully in his Roman home, surrounded by the love of his family.”

The foundation also confirmed that a lying in state will be held on Wednesday and Thursday to pay tribute to the fashion designer.

Valentino’s funeral service will be held the following day at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs.

His stunning creations were worn by celebrities and well-known figures including Elizabeth Taylor, Nancy Reagan, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow. He co-founded the Valentino fashion house in 1960 and ranked alongside Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld at the top of the profession.
