The Canaries are making progress on a temporary move for the 18-year-old, who spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
Norwich are in the market for a left back after losing Lucien Mahovo to a muscular injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for a significant period, with experienced option Jeff Schlupp still out with a hamstring issue.
Amass has attracted interest from across the Championship, but talks with City chiefs have pushed the move into their favour in recent days. If a move gets completed, he will provide competition for Ben Chrisene and offer Philippe Clement another option in that area of the pitch.
The 18-year-old was absent from United’s under-21 win over Sporting on Tuesday night ahead of completing his move to Carrow Road. The defender has made seven senior appearances at Manchester United. including five in the Premier League.
Amass made 22 appearances during his loan spell at Hillsborough, netting one and assisting another before the terms of his original loan from Manchester United ran out earlier this month.
City boss Clement confirmed after their midweek victory over West Brom that Norwich were in the market for several new recruits, with a striker and number 10 also believed to be on their wishlist this month.

“We’re busy with several players and several positions and I hope we can get everything over the line, I know everybody’s working hard on that,” Clement said.
“We had a lot of talks also this week with several players and after the talks they were really interested in the project, this type of result will help also, because several players have the idea maybe, ‘Yes, but you’re in a relegation spot and until the end of the season you are going to play relegation football and kick and rush because you’re in trouble’.
“These games like this, help also. So I hope this will help some players also over the line. We are busy with several guys.”
